GROUP: Plan for location reccie

Location reccie plan and schedule
In order to maximize the overall level of quality of our music video production, all members of our group will be carrying out research on locations by actually visiting them. Reasons for visiting them will be to enable us to see how suitable these locations are for our production, discover any problems we may have with filming in these locations (permission etc.) and to expose any possible dangers or hazards that may come as a result from using these locations, so that we can then rectify these problems and progress with our production. We will visit these locations as a group, and take photographs for us to be able to later assess the quality of each location,  The locations I am referring to are as follows:

Brighton pier and boardwalk are clearly iconic and have obvious links to surf culture. They also tend to be very light due to the lack of buildings etc. to block sunlight, this is appropriate as we have previously mentioned that very light locations should be used, especially in order to achieve the illusion of our environment being LA and Venice Beach where surfing originated from.

Also, we will incorporate the use of an American diner in our production to reinforce the idea that our music video actually takes place in America. American diners have continued to be easily recognisable and iconic from the 1960’s till present day. We will visit suitable locations, to assess whether they are suitable for production based on aspects such as how achievable our desired shots are. As these locations are clearly privately owned, we will also have to acquire permission to film on these locations, to avoid any possible problems that may result from filming without permission.

We are considering shooting a scene for the music video featuring a performance of a fragment of the track. For this scene, we are considering shooting footage at a small local venue. Due to the nature of the artist, who are renowned for performing house parties, and generally perform energetic and intimate shows, we will could recreate this by filming within a small room, full of a small crowd. Finding this location may prove to be a significant task, but we do know of a small dark room for performances within our school, which may be perfect for these scenes. Again, we will have to acquire permission to use this location, and carry out a risk assessment to prevent hazards or dangers. Alternatively, a music studio could be used for this scene, where it would be easier to create the illusion that the shots were taken at a venue during a live performance.
To tie in with the meta-narrative of the band, with strong association to surf and skate culture, and to also tie in with the theme of wasting time, we will shoot shots of the ‘bands members’ and their friends enjoy leisure time at a skate park, where they will be skating and generally having fun. There are a number of skate parks which we could use; one is local to our school (St. John’s skate Park) which is a large recreational area, and while it does not look iconically American (which ideally it would do), it does contain a lot of greenery which would be associated with a warmer and sunnier climate, such as that of Los Angeles of which the artist of the track has strong links with as I have previously mentioned.
